Hello, my name is Daniel Kao. I love traveling and I love helping people travel, for less.
For the last 6 years, I worked as an event coordinator. I traveled around the U.S. putting on events. I’ve booked over 100 trips out of my own pocket.. Most of the trips were for work, some were for family, and a few were for vacations.
When I first started a company in 2014, we didn’t have money and we were never funded. Everything was bootstrapped. But I had to be in various cities almost every week for meetings and planning.
Spirit Airlines was my go-to and I grew to love in that love-hate relationship. If I had to book hotels, I went for $25/night run-down hotels or slept in airports. If I had to get somewhere, I walked or booked the cheapest car rental I could find.
I’ve flown with half my clothes on me to save on baggage costs, walked for miles to avoid cab rides, stayed in airports to avoid paying for hotels, and have done unthinkable things to save money on travel!
Considering an average trip is usually easily over $1000 total for flight, accommodation, and transportation, I had to learn how to travel for less quickly. This blog discusses the various ways I’ve traveled for cheap.
My Pain, Your Gain!
Whether you’re just solo-trekking around the globe or you’re sharing an experience with loved ones, I hope my 6 years of finding ways to travel cheap will help you travel well, for less.
I’ve spent years learning the complexities of airline policies, points, hidden costs, hotels, transportation, travel hacks, travel deals, and anything related to travel so I can save money and travel more (and better) for less.
If you’re looking for private help with bookings, I’ve realized to really help someone find the best deals takes a lot of time and hassle. Often the hassle is even more than what travel agents would want to deal with to find the best deals.
My deal search involves extensive searches and careful, meticulous planning using experience and every trick I know. I don’t take any commissions and I have no plans to monetize this site yet. If I’m able to help you save money, I have a small list of organizations I’d love for you to consider donating to (a portion of whatever I help you save).
My two passions in life: Finding the best deals on travel and supporting life-changing organizations around the world.
Where I’ve Been / Guest Post Opportunities
Below are some of the places I’ve been where I discuss how I traveled there for cheap.
I have not gotten around to writing about all of them but if you have a guest post opportunity, I’d be happy to write for your blog (about one of the destinations I’ve traveled to below or anything travel related) and link that article onto this page.
